How he works
Nothing here is presented as an explanation for a talent. What follows is a way of moving through the world — with its costs written down next to its advantages.
Repetition
The same route to the paddock. The same order of gloves, balaclava, helmet. Not superstition — a way of keeping the volume of the day survivable.
Precision of perception
He notices the third-of-a-degree change in camber that the engineers find later in the survey data. He cannot always tell whether the person next to him is angry.
Sensory load
Paddock noise, radio chatter, camera flashes, people standing too close. Between runs he sits alone in the dark of the transporter with the doors shut.
Need for control
The protocol is eleven steps because eleven steps is what it takes for him to be able to do it at all. Step 08 — giving the wheel away — is the hardest thing in the film.
Social cost
He communicates in writing, at length, with total clarity. In person he is short, flat and often read as cold. Two people in the story understand this. Neither of them is a journalist.
Structure recognition
He sees patterns in the circuit, in the telemetry, in the fragment. This is the trait the plot uses — and the film is careful that it is a way of thinking, not a superpower.

Holds a veto over the entire run. Uses it once, at a moment that costs the production more than the money.
